Just finished MetaGame by Sam Landstrom (edit: some microsoft dude). Total cheese at first but then I got sucked in like a dust bunny into a vacuum cleaner. Like $0.99 or free on kindle so I figured what the heck. P.S. love my kindle!

(Edit) Plot: Future world where a person's life consists of a plugging into different video games to earn points to try to eventually gain immortality. And all the chicks are hot.

"The Fall" by Camus. It's a novellette, but all I have time for.

Just picked up 'Apocalypse 2012'...by the late Gary Jennings (he didn't write it, but his extensive research was the inspiration for the novel, though he gets credit for it). Robert Gleason and Junius Podrug are the co-authors.

The very first page, under the heading "Praise for Apocalypse 2012", displays comments by Publishers Weekly: "A wealth of sex and violence".

Hmm...sex and violence...what's not to love? I'm going to enjoy this!

That's a good one. Have meant to double back and read that again.

Presently rereading The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and Getting Things Done by David Allen.

Trying to start a book called "China Mountain Zhang" but, too much work is getting in the way.

Next on deck: "The Sporty Game." Which is about the design race between the Douglas DC-10, Airbus A300, and Lockheed L-1011, and how it worked out.

back to reading the Loch, Steven Alten, it's a decent read, though it follows nearly the exact same pattern his other books do.....

just finished The Fuller Memorandum by Charles Stross.

you might like it, it's set in a world very similar to ours where "magic" is achieved by high-level mathematics, and computers are instrumental in demonology. fun stuff. there a few short stories on tor.com by the guy, look for the laundry series.

and enjoy.

Just finished it yesterday; I liked it a lot more than Catcher in the Rye as a teen reaching adulthood story. This may have something to do with my bias for all things Fitzgerald, though.

I keep trying to force my way through Infinite Jest, but I just can't do it. I think I'll re-read Brave New World again, haven't read it since first year of university.

I'm reading Kings of the Road, by Ken W. Purdy. Found it dirt cheap used on amazon, a recommended read for anybody even vaguely interested in cars.

I've been going through the arduous process of reading the entire Harry Potter series.
Am presently on the fifth (900 pages!?!?) book in the series Order of the Phoenix.

*sigh*

honestly.. Atlas Shrugged thus far is a somewhat boring read to me. not helping that the book is somewhat small print.

I'm waiting for the last book to come out in paper back and then I'll start from the beginning. I've got 1-9 on the shelf...

Waiting for the latest Honorverse book to come out in p/b, too. *twiddle*

Currently - Lords of the Horizons: A History of the Ottoman Empire by Jason Goodwin. He also writes a very good mystery series set in early 1800s Istanbul with a eunuch protagonist.

Up next - The Forgotten Genius: The Biography Of Robert Hooke 1635-1703 by Stephen Inwood. Some of you might know him from the 1st & 2nd books of Neal Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, others might know him from the engraving of a flea he did in the 1660's. Hooke in one of my favorite historical figures, he invented, built, discovered, and theorized so many different things that we use every day but very few people even know he existed. His reputation was ruined after his death by his competitor, Isaac Newton. Newton supposedly hated him so much that he had Hooke's portrait as head of the Royal Society burned. So, all-in-all,a fun guy.

after a quick epiphany tonight during the application for Fafsa () I realised that now that I had finished "The Loch" that I needed another book....

The epiphany was somehow tied to courage, and I immediately thought of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and Atticus Finch talking about Courage.....need to get a copy of that now to hold me over till school starts.
