Probably one of the most sportiest looking Subies ever

I own an Impreza and the car has been extremely reliable, just like the Nissan Pulsar I had before. I love my sporty 4WD cars, in the real world they drive and handle extremely well.
The Subie style boxer engine is just so throbby and raucous

Just add a big WRC wing for the STI and your golden

Latest news is that development costs are running over budget, possibly caused by the need to make the Subaru boxer run cleaner and more efficiently. This is pushing the expected price up. I understood that they had anticipated doing the work to improve the boxer, which has always been a bit thirsty, but maybe it's more difficult than anticipated ??

They are also expecting to sell to customers in their forties, rather than their thirties as previously.

Hmmm wonder how that's going to translate over here...

I guess the "I'll believe it when I see it" to a "cheap" Toyota sports car was the correct stance to take heh

Let's just call it Gran Turismo 5: The Car. Both the game and the car have been pushed so far backwards that they've become a joke-in-arms.

http://jalopnik.com/5548326/report-t...ayed-two-years

Costs, soft market, and the NHTSA's open declaration of war on Toyota are taking their toll on the only thing the company has done right in the last decade. Rumor says it's delayed another few model years.

Um, Toyota? The FT-86 concept looks fine. Stop dicking around and build it.

So from the Toyota company as a whole, if you want a sports car, you can choose to buy the Lexus supercar that's about $250K more than it should be or......nothing.

Probably already done in AUS. They seem fond of stuffing Lexus V8s into anything and everything--kinda like Americans and LSxes.

Yup. There are a couple (I think - I know of at least one) LS2 powered first gen IS200s in the UK.

I just love the fact tha the 3UR clearly exists because Toyota needed the right size for oval racing

FT-86: On-time, and unchanged: http://www.7tune.com/news-scoop-the-...-and-unchanged

Quote:
One of the journalists at the conference reminded Yamashina san that there is a very high level of anxiety amongst the public over the FT-86, to which Mr Yamashina replied categorically that the cars development was on schedule and that because of Toyota’s connection with Subaru, there was no way that the car wasn’t going to be great. Read from that what you will but it is clear that Toyota is holding this hand very very close to its chest and is intent on releasing news and coverage on the car when it feels the time is right.
Better to have it delayed, but be great, rather than sort of miss the mark*.

* - doesn't apply to GT5.

If Subaru is doing the lion's share of development, I wouldn't worry.

Glad to see it's on time, it will be nice to see some RWD alternatives to the Miata and the 370Z, since the Solstice and S2000 are gone and the RX-8 soon will be.

The only problem with Subaru is you can guarantee it'll rattle like rocks in a tin can after a year of ownership and the paint will be of absolutely terrible quality. I speak from increasingly annoyed experience...

Rattling?

Granted, the Legacy's power steering usually does periodically develop a squeak.

The Legacy is a lot better built than the new Impreza YW. The dash and door cards are already making numerous annoying noises, and the stupid fold away blind for the rear hatch is now in the garage, it was so noisy. Even that is far cheaper made than the Legacy one. Decontenting FTL.

I dunno about rattling but I can vouch for shitty paint on Subarus - several people I know that have them complain about it.

Ah, thought so. That however makes sense given that the Legacy is the flagship model.

I love Subarus as much as anybody here but I would say Toyota has and does produce better quality than Subaru. I see it anecdotally through my ownership of one of each and you can see it statistically too through JD Power, Consumer Reports and the like.
