Suddenly trying to turn laps in testing mode has become very popular and competitive here at work, we have a leaderboard up on the whiteboard behind my desk. I was whipping up a ruby app to keep track of everyone's times so we don't have to write it up there anymore and I just kept getting irritated at "Summit Point Raceway - Summit Point Raceway".

Yeah, sorry I caught you there, Ryan, I was trying to stay as far to the left as I could, but it wasn't quite far left enough. I think I got lucky that my damage was so severe, it was clear right then that I *had* to pit. I literally could not turn right, with the wheel cranked all the way right I was going straight, otherwise I'd veer left. I came out only about 40 seconds behind the leaders, I think staying out longer pretty much killed ya.
Seemed like otherwise people did well, though. I think John had to pit once for damage, otherwise he'd have been up there pretty well, and I heard a whole lot less swearing from Ed, so it seemed like he had a good race ![]() And yeah, our VP at my work is a huge racing fan, and I brought in the wheel/pedals and let him run a few laps on iRacing. Then everyone else wanted a crack at it. Now, they all want me to bring it in every Friday, though I think the VP has budgeted some money to get a G27 for the office and set it up with a dedicated machine. The company firewall blocks any outbound traffic except for some specific ports, so we can't connect to any races (which is really for the best, the last thing I need is some idiot going into a real race and driving backwards around the track), but it also means we couldn't really have our own hosted races for now. Still, I got at least one of my coworkers to go pick up a G27 and sign up with iRacing...'course, he didn't put me in as a referral... ![]() ![]() Sometimes working at MySpace ain't so bad. I'm going to do some testing today to put together a four week series; this will be a different car and track each week. It will start with basic content for the first two weeks, followed by added content (based on what the most drivers have) for the last two weeks.
Also, this week's Thursday race is open at this time. Let's here some ideas about what you guys would like to drive, or even if someone else would like to host one.

That'd be a fun combo. I'd endeavor to be there if at all possible. Should be able to dammit!

My work is having a summer party tomorrow (outside during one of the biggest heat waves we've had in a while, should be awesome), but it starts with an all hands meeting. I should be able to make it home in time, but just in case, if I miss it, that's why. And it'd blow to miss the race where I picked the car & track!

Bummer, Nate...missed an amusing race
![]() Tricky track. I've managed to be more consistent in practice, but managed to hose it three times. Still managed a PB on my last lap. Great time, again, guys. ![]() See you all (and hopefully a few more) for the start of the Mini-Season next week. Results:

Sorry I missed it, surprised by a few friends of mine around the time of the race. I'll be in and out of the mini-season. Thursday isn't the best day or me but I'll probably swap between various real life events and the season.

Ed you're too nice. Looking at the replay I totally came back on track right in front of you and nearly caused you to spin, but you were able to hold on to it. With so few cars on track I guess I didn't think anyone was that close behind me, sorry.
I practiced a little last night and managed to get into the low 45's and had a few spins. Got to qualifying tonight and I didn't get one clean lap in the entire 20 minutes! I was even being careful on a few laps just to post some kind of time but damn that car is slippery on a couple of corners here. But as usual for me come race time my concentration peaks and I didn't have a single spin the whole 20 laps, at one point reeling off 7 laps in the 44's in a row(Stop snickering Bryan). Heh. The only time I made a mistake was letting Swervo by into turn 1, I wen't to the outside to give him room on the inside and just sailed right into the gravel for some strange reason. I hit the wall pretty hard but surprisingly my car still drove fine after that. Weird. You guys dipping into the 40's are just insane, not sure how you do it. Thanks for the racing Ed and everyone. Let's get some more cars on track!

No snickering here, this car is hard as hell with the new transmission model, and this track is major danger in any car. You have to drive a hair's breadth from crashing spectacularly to be fast here.
Went back to the track for a bit to get a replay of a quick lap for you. This was all I got - good enough for now, although you will see where I lost chunks of time. The long left hander leading up to the back straight mainly. I braked too early, missed the apex on top of that, and did far too much drifting through the middle of the corner to boot, killing my exit speed. I lost at least a quarter second in that one turn. But the other two left handers I fricken nailed to the wall on this lap. Turns 1 and 2 were pretty good, missed the apex a smidge in the fast right hander after the back stretch. Little moment in the next right turn, and then a bigger moment in the final corner as I got a little greedy. That was the one turn that wasn't giving me downshift issues all night, 'course now it does on my best lap... in general, my corner entries are either way tentative or somewhat out of control and imprecise. Never know when the transmission will cooperate anymore. With the old transmission I'm sure I could do 39s all day long.Anyway, I don't normally drive that on edge in a race. Was just trying to force a fast lap in short order. The replay: http://www.filefront.com/17239103/BH...139983test.rpy Setup is the same as what I shared in the Road Atlanta race, except brake bias is now 52%.

Heh, that last right hander leading to the s/f never gave me downshift issues because I didn't downshift
I usually just stayed in 4th for that corner, seemed faster for me. The one I kept struggling with was that run from 3 to 4. I couldn't decide if it was better to stay in 3rd and hit the rev limiter at the end or shift to 4th for a second before dropping right back to third. In the end, I settled on not shifting there and just hitting the rev limiter right before my brake point. |
