Nothing. Alcohol and muscle relaxers don't mix too well or so I've heard and I don't really like finding out if they do or not.

Trout Slayer from Big Sky brewary. Not to bad, but it is rather lighter than I would like, but it was good.

Milk Stout - Left Hand Brewing Company (CO) and Wheat - O'Fallon Brewery (MO/WI). The Milk Stout is excellent. The Wheat was good, but not as good as Capitol Brewery's Island Wheat.

All right. I think in retrospect maybe I was "Mikey"-ed a little bit. The host and his brother seemed to be strongly encouraging me to try the big bottle of ale in the corner of the cooler. But I saw it was a local microbrew, and thought it would do for my one beer better than some of the snobby European alternatives. It reminded me of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, although I only remember having that once. I was in Florida, and I actually thought it might have gone skunky. This Dead Elephant Ale was just very hoppy. True, it was not long before its posted expiry date. It was noticeably hoppy, but quite pleasant to drink--didn't give a sore throat feeling at all. Yes, I thought it was a good choice for my one beer of the afternoon. Here's some more photos to show other inscriptions on the label. And they also got a stealth picture of MrsWagon. She actually tried a little bit of the Dead Elephant, and thought it was good, saying it was like the Fullers we had a few weeks ago. But it really was a lot hoppier than that. I'm debating whether to post pictures of the roasting pig anywhere here... Actually, I might have had Sierra Nevada in 1991 when I drove across the midwest and northern prairie states, but don't remember for sure. Why doesn't my spelling-checker like "hoppy"? Trout Slayer used to be a beer from another Missoula, MT brewery called Bayern. Bayern was licensing the recipe and the name from a guy out there. Somehow Big Sky bought the name but not the recipe so now Trout Slayer is a Big Sky brew but it's not the same as the old Bayern Trout Slayer (which had a cooler label BTW). The Bayern Trout Slayer is now called Dancing Trout. I had my bomber of Arrogant Bastard tonight. I remember seeing it on a shelf when I lived in Phoenix and thought about getting it just for the name. But as the label says as that time I was not worthy, I'm sure I wouldn't have liked it. So 12 years later I had my first Arrogant Bastard and I liked it but I do feel like maybe I missed my window on it because while it's very good it isn't the unique beer it probably was at that point. It's great it's just that there are now a lot of other beers that do the same thing as well. It certainly hasn't decreased my desire to have Stone distribute here because their beer is not only quite good but pretty reasonably priced for what it is. |

They used to make a brown ale that was fabulous, but I haven't seen it for years. Their Gabby Blonde isn't too bad though.

The Summit fall sampler has been in stores for a few weeks now and I have resisted it because I'm not ready to let summer go but it was time, I got it.
The Oktoberfest is pretty good. |

Honey Brown.
Stopped by an Aldi's today and looked at their beer selection. Probably pick up a sixer or two in the next few weeks.

I picked up a Variety case from Ithaca Brewing. It has:
Apricot Wheat Partly Sunny (Belgian Wit) Nut Brown Pale Ale I've had the Partly Sunny, which is quite good and a taste of the Apricot wheat. The Apricot wheat has a nice flavor with just a hint of apricot at the beginning and then it finishes like a wheat beer.

![]() Zlatopramen! (Golden Well) Cheap AND good. Drank one glass bottle of it before straight from the bottle and it tasted very well - although my friend told me that the crate only costs 8 Euro. Rule of Thumb: Most of the time a crate of beer that costs less than 10 Euro (excluding deposit) is crap. And as the Wacken came near I looked out for good beer in PET bottles. Luckily our local shop that sells remaining stock and surplus had a sixpack (6x1,5l = 9 liter) for slightly under 8 Euro (excluding deposit). So it was the beer of choice when I was at my tent - as it needed a mug. Funny thing is that the shrinkwrap is completely in czech and the bottles are in german. I like the design. The head only stays short and it isn`t very lively but I never saw a bottled one in a glass so I can`t tell if it`s only so with the PET bottles. You can`t get it here in glass bottles like Budweiser Budvar, Statopramen or Pilsner Urquell but maybe this will change.

Been alternating between Rickard's White and Sapporo this month; Rickard's just because it's summer, and with an orange it's not bad at all. Going for wings at my favourite local place tonight and that calls it.
I'm having a small disagreement with someone; they're adamant a "real" Long Island doesn't include tequila. I'm telling them they're making it wrong. |

Picked up some Bell's Oarsmen Ale. It's a pale wheat ale (paler than Miller Lite). The label says that it uses a sour mash method.
Very, very light tasting but with a bit of tartness. Would have been nice if they had released it earlier when it was still hot but not bad at all. |

I don't think it's a matter of purists, but it's like throwing vodka into a martini!
Went out with a few friends to the Beers Of The World pub nearby yesterday. Had some Lindemans Kriek since I had been told it wasn't going to be available for much longer (lies!). It's probably too cherry-flavoured for most, but as that's a favourite fruit, I don't mind. A friend had another Lindemans, still on the sweet side, but I can't remember the exact name. Third friend had an excellent cider that I also forget the name of (started with "Stra"), last friend had a Lowenbrau. They have a $52 bottle of beer that I can only imagine tastes like money. |

I wouldn't compare martinis and Long Islands
![]() The other Lindeman's was probably Framboise which is Raspberry. They have a few other flavors but Framboise is the most common. |

I like Southern Tier and I like the Single Wide IPA too but the Single Wide foams over every time you pour it. I know from Beer Advocate that I'm not the only one to experience that. Be patient when you pour it and you'll probably like it.

Thanks for the tip.
Tried a few of the beers yesterday and the Zywiec Porter was the best of the lot and reminded me a lot of Guinness, both in appearance and taste. The Earthquake was the worst of the lot tasting like sweat mixed with sugar. Then again at 12% I should've known it would be nasty. The Dixie was pretty much meh as its taste reminded me a lot of Abita minus the rusty water taste. The Southern Tier IPA was pretty competent for an IPA but it comes up short when compared to DFH's 90 Minute IPA.
