Default What books are we reading?

It's been a long time since I've read a book from cover to cover. To be honest it really needs to be interesting to hold my attention. A few weeks back I was listening to Bob & Tom on a Monday morning when one of their instudio guests was an author talking about Chuck Taylor. I listened to the whole interview and my interest was piqued.
The book is called Chuck Taylor, All Star by Abraham Aamidor and tells the story of Taylor's life, seperating fact from myth. I have seen the shoes around for years but knew little about Taylor. Very good book and a must read for Random and other Chuck wearers.

At the moment i'm close to 3/4 through The Green Mile by Stephen King. I'm a huge fan of the movie and the book is equally awesome so far, despite being a little different.

As for the Dreamcatcher book and movie. Well, i should have listened to The End. The movie started out alright, but then got WAY too hollywoodised. Where the heck is it written in the book that Kurtz chases after Underhill/Duddits etc in a helicopter?!?!? And at the end how Duds turns into an alien? >

This one book about a shephard that goes to Africa after meeting some guy who gives him a black stone and a white stone. He gets duped out of his money and helps a crystal dealer expand his shop. But I forgot the name. I'm also reading an old collection of Aesop's fables, the Bear and the Dragon (again), and A Very Brief History of Politics.

My latest books are the two Splinter Cell novels, though I finished them within a few days of buying em so, I'm not really reading anything anymore.

Japan: A Cultural, Social, and Political History, Haruko's World, A Man With No Talents, Japan Unbound, and War Without Mercy...all for my Japanese History class. fun. I'm also meaning to read more through a book I used for my Journalism research project last term, Videogames by Newman...almost an academic novel on the medium, and I love every inch of it.

I read more through magazines than I do through books during the school year at least. addicted to F1 Racing, Four-Four-Two, Electronic Gaming Monthly and evo
.

The Road To Reality by Roger Penrose

Just started as it was a birthday present (although my birthday is this weekend, Im heading away so my parents gave me the present early)

At over 1000 pages it should keep me busy for a while.

I read more magazines than books too. Lori and I get Time, Outside and The Walrus. I also read OC Weekly when I can find a copy.

The Idiot by Dostoyesky and The Unfolding of Language by Guy Deutscher. (I am thinking about studying linguistics at university, but JHU doesn't have it .)

I'm almost done with Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson. It's pretty good, but at 900+ pages it's not a fast read.

Next on the list is Broken Angles by Richard Morgan. I loved Altered Carbon so I can't wait to start reading this one

Now I'm re-reading Rainbow Six.

I'm currently reading Janet Evanovich's Metro Girl Yes, it may cost me my guy card. But she is a damn funny writer.

I'm also working my way thru Micheal Connolly's books.
I've just finished The Black Ice, and Blood Work is on my bedside table.

I'm waiting patiently for the price of Stuart Woods newest book to come down. I refuse to pay 10 bucks for a paperback.

Changed it up a little last week and read a few Graphic Novels. Transmetropolitan being a series I'm now as hooked on as PD James or other more conventional books.

Next week though I think it'll be non-fiction. I've been meaning to pick up A History of the Five Points Neighborhood at the Strand, or maybe New York's other islands - another New York-centric history book. I may also go down tomorrow and see if they have From Emporer to Citizen: the Autobiography of Pu-Yi.

I also read an issue of Automobile Quarterly just about every week although that's gettng expensive.

Trying to get into 'Decipher' by Stel Pavlou...want to read it before the 'DaVinci Code' movie comes out...they're sort of along the same lines.

Other than that, I'm reading a wide assortment of new and old comic books.

I'm finishing up the Hitchhiker books (again) and then will be moving on to a new Star Wars book. I think it's called outbound flight by Timothy Zahn who is IMHO the best Star Wars writer ever.

It was indeed pretty good. IF you haven't already give The Last Coyote and Trunk Music a read.
The Closers also caught me completely off guard.

The bood before The Closers, where he brings the characters from The Poet and Harry Bosch together is good. I just can't think of the name of it...

I'm also a big fan of James Patterson.
I used to read Clancy--but I got tired of 450 pages of action being crammed into 875 pages, and kinda gave up on him. My wife likes him and has read all of his fiction works. I stopped at Debt of Honor or Rainbow Six.

Just finished Midnight at the Well of Souls by Jack L. Chalker. Starting the next book in that series today (Exiles at the Well of Souls). Then, the other three books to polish it off.

During that time, I need to read Tuesdays with Morrie.

Just finished "C Is For Corpse" by Sue Grafton. Now reading "Hour Game" by David Baldacci. After this book, I will pickup something by Lee Child who is my flavour of the month author (even though I have taken a short break from his stuff).

i've just finished 'valis' by phillip k dick - its a very odd book, mixing a semi-autobiographical story of being 'visited' by the saviour (in the form of a pink beam of light), with some very heavy philosopy/theology. it was quite interesting, but very hard work and i wouldn't recommend it to anyone whose not already a fan.

i'm also reading alan moore's comic 'promethea' which is probably the most visually stunning series i've ever seen.
